Yoga as a physical exercise can offer many benefits, but we recommend a thorough investigation of the group, and particularly the leader, before committing to a yoga class. Many are cults steeped in New Age philosophy and Hinduism, and the charismatic leader often takes on god-like status. Deception, mind-control and sexual abuse are quite common in yoga cults. We recently heard from a woman whose daughter committed suicide after joining one of these groups at the recommendation of deceived friends.
